Gas Delivery – How Air Source Industries Manages Los Angeles Traffic

Air Source Industries is proud of our 99.9% on-time delivery record. You may be asking how we can achieve this excellent metric in the busy greater Los Angeles area. It’s not easy, that’s for sure. It takes our dedicated team to plan out the routes and get up early every morning to deliver the compressed gases your business needs.

Early Mornings

Every morning our Operations Manager Cesar arrives at Air Source Industries to confirm the truck delivery schedules and cylinder refills that were organized the day prior. Often times there will be gas orders that come in after the close of the prior business day and we’re happy to fulfill these orders the next morning.

Cesar’s job is important as he does the final checklist and organizes deliveries according to their region. A driver may be in the West Hollywood area for the day making deliveries to medical and industrial clients. Another driver may be in East LA and another driver may be making the trip down to south Orange County. Our meticulous delivery planning helps keep our prices competitive by scheduling truck drivers to a region where they make multiple deliveries with the shortest route.

Cesar arranges the delivery paperwork by truck and the driver confirms all the correct cylinders are loaded on their truck. Once everything is good to go, Cesar gives each truck driver their delivery sheets for the day and the drivers depart the Air Source Industries HQ around 8 to 8:30 AM. The drivers are out making deliveries for the majority of the day before they return to HQ to wrap up their day.

Traffic Optimizations

As you know there isn’t just one “rush hour” when you’re living in SoCal. We are a car society and there are lots of vehicles on the road at all times of the day.  Luckily our drivers aren’t alone when it comes to navigating the greater Los Angeles area.

GPS and Real-Time Maps

Thanks to GPS and map navigation, our drivers map out their routes before they leave our HQ.

Just like our customers, our drivers use popular apps like Waze, Google Maps, and Apple Maps to monitor traffic and plot their directions. When an unexpected road hazard or slowdown is going to greatly impact their driving, they may choose to use a detour or major city street to bypass it.

Driver Experience and Ingenuity

Our seasoned drivers have driven around greater Los Angeles for many years and know the areas very well. Many drivers have a preferred route they have driven hundreds of times and develop a rapport with our customers.

Our drivers work with our customers to make the delivery as easy as possible. If the customer’s business is on a busy street where it is not possible to park our truck, we’ll work with our customers to make our delivery in their alley, side street or nearby location that works well for them.

Cell Phones

The Air Source Industries headquarters is only a phone call away for our drivers. Our drivers are constantly communicating with the Air Source Industries HQ to provide updates on their deliveries throughout the day. Cesar and team get the latest details from our drivers and if there is an issue, the HQ team can talk through a solution with the drivers.

Our drivers have a range of tools and knowledge at their disposal to plan their delivery routes. We organize deliveries by region so our drivers are making efficient deliveries around greater Los Angeles.

Schedule Optimizations – Bundling Deliveries by Region

We are aware of the routes where our truck drivers spend the most time in traffic to make their deliveries. So we incorporate our historical data and trends in scheduling our driver routes to optimize delivery times. We’ll schedule these more difficult routes outside these high peak traffic times as much as possible. Sometimes there will be delivery regions where there will always be high levels of traffic like Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood. We plan accordingly for that too.

Drivers expecting they will be experiencing very high levels of local or freeway traffic may have fewer deliveries on their truck that day to balance the time they will be spending in traffic. Or the driver may make the difficult “high traffic” delivery at the end of their day so it doesn’t impact their earlier deliveries. Or we will schedule these deliveries on business days that often have fewer people on the road like Mondays.

Sometimes even with the best planning and knowledge, our drivers rise to the occasion and persevere through heavy traffic to get you the compressed gas your business needs.
